Water Treatment Guide

Water Treatment & Water Softener Installation in Edmonton and Northern Alberta

Homestead Water Systems installs complete water treatment systems — a whole-home water softener paired with an under-counter reverse osmosis drinking system — throughout Edmonton, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, Leduc, Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray, and across Northern Alberta. Every system is fully installed, calibrated and drinking-ready at a published flat price of $3,795 — turnkey and fully installed, with iron and manganese removal for homes on a well or cistern. No consultation, no commission, and no salesperson who can move the number.

Why Edmonton-area water needs treatment

Edmonton's municipal water is drawn from the North Saskatchewan River and treated by EPCOR before it reaches your tap. It meets every health guideline — and it is also hard enough that most households see the effects. Water drawn from private wells across the surrounding counties is typically harder again, and frequently carries iron on top of hardness. EPCOR publishes current water quality figures for the city, and rather than ask you to take a number off a website, we measure your home's actual hardness on install day and calibrate the system to it.

Hard water is more than a nuisance. Dissolved calcium and magnesium form scale inside hot water tanks, dishwashers, and plumbing, shortening appliance life and raising energy costs. At the tap, hard water leaves chalky residue on fixtures and glassware, dries out skin and hair, and forces soaps and detergents to work harder. A properly sized water softener removes these minerals at the point of entry, bringing the whole home below 1 gpg — genuinely soft water from every fixture.

How the turnkey system works

The Homestead system pairs two technologies. First, a high-capacity 1 cu. ft. resin softener with a smart metered valve treats all the water entering your home, regenerating on demand so it uses minimal salt and water. Second, a four-stage under-counter reverse osmosis system filters your drinking water down to 0.0001 microns — stripping dissolved solids, chlorine, lead, and microplastics — and delivers it through a dedicated lead-free chrome faucet at your kitchen sink. Our Edmonton-based, licensed installers complete the typical installation in about four hours, including all plumbing connections, calibration, the first salt fill, and full cleanup.

Communities we serve

We install and service water softeners and reverse osmosis systems across Edmonton and all of Northern Alberta, including acreage and well-water homes. There is no assessment visit to sit through first: tell us your postal code and whether you're on city water or a well, and the site gives you the price. You book a date, a licensed plumber installs the system, and you pay on completion.

Acreage & well-water homes

~32 gpg

Well and cistern water in this region is usually harder than city supply and frequently carries iron, which a softener alone handles badly. The Acreage Package at $3,795 adds a dedicated iron and manganese filter and a sediment pre-filter.

Leduc & Beaumont

~20 gpg

Scale on dishwashers and hot water tanks is the usual complaint here. We install both city-supplied and acreage homes — $2,795 on municipal water, $3,795 on a well or cistern.

Sturgeon County

~24 gpg

Homes on municipal lines take the $2,795 Standard Package. Properties on a well or cistern take the $3,795 Acreage Package, which adds iron and manganese removal and a sediment pre-filter.

Spruce Grove & Stony Plain

~17 gpg

Flat-rate installation at $2,795 for homes on city water, including all plumbing connections, calibration, the first salt fill and full cleanup.

Sherwood Park

~16 gpg

Hard water leaves scale on fixtures and shortens hot water tank life. Standard Package installed at $2,795 — price published up front, no assessment visit and no sales call.

St. Albert

~18 gpg

City-supplied homes across St. Albert. Standard Package installed flat-rate at $2,795: softener, under-counter reverse osmosis, all plumbing connections, calibration and cleanup.

Edmonton

~12 gpg

EPCOR-treated municipal water drawn from the North Saskatchewan River. The Standard Package — whole-home softener plus under-counter reverse osmosis — is $2,795 installed, typically in about four hours.
